I stumbled into paleo. I was suffering from serious upper respiratory allergies, and the usual allergy meds did not help much. I tested as allergic to pretty much everything. I started working with a functional medicine doctor and a nutritionist… and they suggested no dairy/no gluten/minimal grains/no sugar as a diet to help calm the inflammation in my allergy-ridden body. When I began researching on the web…. ok, so what CAN I eat?…. I found myself on various Paleo blogs etc.
I was a vegetarian for 35 years… sometimes eating some seafood, sometimes vegan…. but no meat at all. I had started eating some meat about a year ago… and when I moved into Paleo, began eating more meat. This feels fine to me.
The bad news? I am still struggling with allergy symptoms.
The good news? In six months of eating Paleo, I lost 40 pounds. My Primary Care doc is "thrilled" with my test results -- I am no longer pre-Diabetic. My cholesterol is normal. My blood pressure (forrmerly on the edge of needing meds) is normal. All of my RED test results are now happily in the black. I look better and I feel better.
Paleo works for me!!!
